Meet the Ghar Ki Laxmi, Shikha Kanodia, winner of The Great Gruhini Women’s Day Contest.
Shikha is an apparels entrepreneur, a doting mom to five year old Nandita, a dedicated wife to Vikas, a banker by profession.
In an email response which was vetted by the jury, our first Money Savvy Mom, Ketayun Irani, Shikha shares her 5 secrets to be a Money Savvy Mom
2. I consider bargaining an important part of the buying process especially in mom and pop stores. I have ended up getting 10-15% discount in the most unexpected places.
3. While in departmental stores/ supermarkets, I always check for ongoing offers before stacking up my cart. On a lot of occasions good and discounted products are placed in the most inaccessible corners.
4. I firmly believe in the power of small savings by setting aside small amounts each month rather than waiting to collect a big amount before depositing. There are two advantages (1) the money is never idle (2) with the money gone, the temptation to spend is curtailed.
5. I am trying to inculcate saving habits in my daughter by opening a bank account for her. I try to ensure she visits the bank with us for depositing the money. Besides saving she is also learning something new also.Whatever money she gets from grandparents, goes directly into her piggybank. She knows that her dad will transfer her piggy bank collection to her bank account. Whenever she goes out shopping with me, she asks the shopkeeper “Ispar koi offer hai kya”?
