Getting Funny with Money

Fellow Gruhinis, have the incessant rains put a stop on your child’s play-time? Are you stressed out that your children may end up watching too much “junk” television now that they cannot play outside? Fret not!  Gyaani Gruhini is here to help! In today’s post, we take a look at how learning, about money can be made fun!

For all my special little ones (and their moms), straight from the Gruhini’s treasure trove is a compilation of must watch and must read books for you to make money basics an entertaining interaction with your children.

The next time your pre-schooler wants you read out a book, introduce him to Mr Money Kumar or Raju, the comic characters that appear in the comics issued by our very own Reserve Bank of India (RBI)!!

Through a series of simple stories, you can help your children understand the concept of savings, spending, loans and information about currency notes. These books can be downloaded here. http://www.rbi.org.in/commonman/English/scripts/basicbanking.aspx

And if you would like a hardcopy like I did, please feel free to write or call me, I will be happy to share the same.

For your older kids (above 8 years), the Gruhini strongly recommends meeting Mr Shanti Prasad Dwarkanath Bhargava alias “Bugs Uncle” alias “One Idiot”. Bugs Uncle is an eccentric man, and is often made fun of by the kids in his building. But is there more to him than meets the eye??

One Idiot” stars Amol Gupte, yes, the one who directed the Aamir Khan starrer “Taare Zameen Par”.

So there you have it! Hope today’s treasure trove of learning will keep you and your own little treasure occupied for hours. Till next time, Happy Learning!!!
