9 Steps to Filing Income Tax Returns on Your Own

Step 5 Check your Form 26AS for information on taxes deducted:

Form 26AS contains the summary of all the taxes paid by you directly or TDS deducted from your income during the year. This includes taxes deducted by your employer and banks and anybody else who deducted tax while making a payment to you.

Check if the entries match with the number mentioned in your Form 16 and Form 16A.

Form 26AS can be accessed from the Income Tax Department website. Login to your account and click on View Form 26AS. You will be taken to the TRACES website where you can download the statement. Return to the e-filing website and upload Form 26AS for the software to pick up the tax deducted data.
